We’ve all seen banner ads. It’s inevitable. As soon as you log onto the internet, they are likely to be in any given page you may be browsing through.
If you’re a marketer or a business and are considering different online platforms for advertising, you should consider banner advertising. So how do you start? Here are some things you should consider:
Who is your target? Define your audience. Understanding who you are trying to reach will help you to design your ad according to the audience’s needs so that it gets noticed. Not only that, it will also help you to identify what host sites are most appropriate for your specific audience in order to place your banner where it will be best received.
What is your message? Determine what you are trying to sell, or perhaps you are trying to put out a message, or gain brand recognition. What is the specific idea you are trying to construct your campaign around?
What is your budget? You will be paying for ad space with online banners the same way you’d pay for space in other mediums. Most banner ads are paid for with a cost per click (CPC) method. Take the time to decide how much money you’d like to dedicate to an initial campaign.
The next step is to buy ad space. As I mentioned, you’ll have to actually pay for the space for where your ad appears. There are two ways you can do this. You can either find host sites you are interested in outing your banner up on and negotiate one on one for costs and timeframes. Many people find this time consuming and sometimes confusing, especially considering the infinite options there are for ad space, so many choose to go the other route. That is, consider letting an advertising network handle this for you, there are many companies (yes, not only Google Adwords) that will do the placing for you based upon your target audience and budget.
